Danny O'Flaherty in Concert

Firelight Performing Arts Academy is proud to present Danny O’Flaherty in concert at 7p.m., March 20, 2010.

Danny O'Flaherty has captivated audiences from Old Jaffa and Jerusalem to Washington D.C. None other than The Washington Post raved, "Suddenly we were no longer in our nation's capital; we were on a trip across the waters as we clapped, sung along, laughed, and yes, even wept a tear at a gentle ballad. For Danny O'Flaherty is good, very good. His program wowed an appreciative crowd."

Whether is it a sold-out concert with the Tulsa Philharmonic, an invitation only performance for the alumnae of Notre Dame University, an Inaugural Ball, a World's Fair, a command performance for a pope or president, or a featured performance for the Council of Exceptional Children's Annual Convention or the American Ireland Fund, Danny O'Flaherty leaves every audience spellbound.

This talented musician switches seamlessly from guitar to accordion to tin whistle to harmonica. His repertoire is extraordinary. Haunting ballads of loves lost and found, songs of the sea and glen, aching calls for tolerance and peace, jigs and reels; Gaelic favorites - traditional tunes interspersed with original hit recordings from his popular CDs - all this and a bewitching personality that has audiences young and old calling for more.

Rehearsals

Wow! Rehearsing for two shows at once is interesting! Last night I rehearsed the Oliver children's cast from 5-7p.m. and then jumped right into a Bell, Book, and Candle rehearsal from 7-9p.m. What an evening!

Bell, Book, and Candle is only 2 weeks away from opening. It is going to be a great show. You really don't want to miss it. Here is a picture of the cast. Interesting group to say the least! On the back row (from left to right) are Vincent Barras (Sidney Redlitch), John Bess (Nicky), and Mitch Landry (Shep Henderson) and on the front are Laura Blum (Aunt Queenie) and Sandy Landry (Gillian Holyrod).

Tickets for Bell, Book, and Candle are available on the web at www.firelightenterprises.com/BoxOffice.html or by calling 337-962-0306. Hope to see you there!

Bell, Book, and Candle

Here is a video from last night's rehearsal of Bell, Book, and Candle.

Bell, Book, and Candle

Greenwhich Village witch Gillian Holroyd (Sandy Landry) has been unlucky in love and restless in life. She admires from afar her neighbor, publisher Shep Henderson (Mitch Landry), who one day walks into her apartment to use the telephone. When she learns he is about to marry an old college enemy of hers, Merle Kittridge, she takes revenge by casting a love spell on him (with assistance from her familiar, Pyewacket), but begins falling for him herself.

Meanwhile, the author of a best-selling book, Magic in Mexico, whom Shep has expressed an interest in meeting, arrives on the scene (thanks to a little magic). Sidney Redlitch (Vincent P. Barras), who is researching a book on witches in New York, acquires an "inside" collaborator when Gillian's warlock brother Nicky (John Bess) volunteers his services--in exchange for a portion of the proceeds. Add a bit of help and mischief from Gillian's Aunt Queenie (Laura Blum) and you have the makings of a spell you won't soon forget.

Let the Firelight cast of Bell, Book, and Candle cast a spell on you! Tickets are available at www.firelightenterprises.com or by calling 962-0306.

Rehearsals for Spring Shows Underway

We have been so busy at Firelight that I have neglected this blog. I am going to try to do a better job of posting here.

Last weekend out Firelight Theatre Company performed their show "Murder at Dudley High," an audience participation murder mystery. What fun! The audience seemed to really enjoy the clue hunt and several people figured out who the villan was.

Firelight has 2 shows in rehearsal for the spring. The Firelight Adults are rehearsing for a production of the comedy "Bell, Book, and Candle." The show will run from February 25-March 6, 2010. The cast of five includes Sandy Landry, Mitch Landry, Laura Blum, Vincent Barras and John Bess.

The big musical of the year is "Oliver." Look for more info about "Oliver" in later posts.
